We have had the pleasure of spending a great deal of time with Tracy and Danny Dyess, owners of The Flower Shop on Church Street in Downtown Columbia, Mississippi. However, the Flower Shop has shifted gears and recently hosted a Re-Grand Opening to promote their new vendor’s market. Now, the 100+ year old home that sits just one block off Main Street, is packed full of some of the most beautiful, unique, and unforgettable items and you will not leave the shop empty handed. The vendors come from all over the south and offer a wide selection of products from antiques, furniture, boutique-style clothing, and even jewelry.
In addition, if you need flowers for any occasion, their floral designers will have you set up with custom pieces in no time. If you need to make someone’s day with a birthday, anniversary, or a just because arrangement. They can usually turn one out in just a day. If it is for a sad occasion, the floral designers at the flower shop pride themselves on personalized and heartwarming casket sprays as well as other necessary floral additions. Beautiful plants of all types are also available for any event at the flower shop. One call and all the stress about your flower or plant needs will be erased. Plus, they will deliver in the immediate area as well.
Before the flower shop offered vendors, Tracey and her staff started hosting events nearly every Saturday. Many times, this was nothing more than a birthday party for a little girl or boy but other times it was a full-fledged decorating class taught by Carlton Thornhill to a group of more than forty. These events continue today, and the beautiful, historic home is the perfect backdrop for the baby showers, book signings, and just friends sitting on the balcony after hours discussing life.
Where products are concerned, the Flower Shop on Church Street in Columbia does truly offer something for everyone. Since opening their doors, the Grumpy Man products are a huge success. Their different flavored pepper jelly is simply divine over a block of cream cheese. Wall and door hangers, pottery, candlestick holders, and picture frames are just a few of things you will find in the main room of the house. The old green couch that greets you with a Welcome and Home sign, has been a mainstay in the business since opening day and is a place where friends and community leaders alike have discussed important matters. Santa and the Easter Bunny have also spent time hashing out their plans on the comfy old couch. And no, it is not for sale. These are just a few of the treasures you will find spread throughout the two-story home.
